Oh Gene Kelly. No Wonder You're A Movie Star
Bottom Line: I would see any movie with Gene Kelly in it. The man sings and tap dances like an angel. Oh and Donald O’Connor is great too, Oh yeah and so is Debbie Reynolds. Oh wait. So was Jean Hagen…I guess their wasn’t an actor in this film I didn’t like. All of them commit so strongly to their characters. Even Cyd Charisse, who, is absolutely smoldering in this movie.
Singin’ in the Rain (Two-Disc Special Edition) is the ultimate in old Hollywood movie magic. This film tells the story of the Film industry’s transition from silent films to talkies. This also comically captures some silent stars’ difficulty in transitioning from acting in silent pictures to acting in films with sound. One very loud, obnoxious, silent film star (I love irony) Lina Lamont makes a rough transition to talkies because she has absolutely one of the worst voices I’ve ever heard. Lina is the perfect over-the-top diva. You’ll love to hate her, it’s the most satisfying once you see Lina get a pie straight to the face.
Donald O’Connor and Gene Kelly work off of each other extremely well in Singin’ in the Rain. Hands down, the best part of the movie:
Don: Hey Cos, do something, call me a cab.
Cosmo: OK, you’re a cab.
Gene Kelly co-directed, and also starred in this 1952 film. In the famous scene where Gene Kelly is “Singin’ in the Rain” it has been reported that Gene Kelly performed the scene while running a 102 degree fever. It seems as though Gene Kelly is as dedicated as he is talented. I am not a big musical fan, but I truly enjoy a classic movie musical, and Singin’ in the Rain is by far the best. The characters are likable, and the music will have your toes tapping—-You can’t help but be in a good mood after watching this film.

This is by far my favorite musical ever. Gene Kelly is awesome, and I agree, I would see any movie with him as well!
