Thank you for this post
Anytime my friend, anytime.
thanks my friend
You’re welcome.
I love this movie, it’s so awesome! I really like Scorsese flicks, they’re all so cool. I like movies that have to do with gangster/mafia. I think what makes Scorsese movies feel so real is that he grew up around the gangster/mafia environment – he saw things first hand in his neighborhood. Oh, the scene with Joe Pesci is classic! It’s amazing that scene was all improvised, very entertaining! I’m really looking forward to Scorsese’s next flick, Shutter Island, can’t wait! Great job on the review!
Thanks! I didn’t know that scene was improvised, that’s amazing.
LOL at your mobster impression. hehe. I’m not a big fan of the mob genre but my this film was memorable at the very least. My favorite is The Departed, I was so scared for Leonardo DiCaprio’s character!
I LOVE the Departed, I think that was the movie when Leonardo stopped looking like a twelve year old boy to me. If you could only bottle his youthfulness…
Most definitely. Scorsese wanted to do something spontaneous and told them just to start talking like a normal conversation and out came that scene! He liked it and kept it, pretty cool!
What’s cool about this movie is Scorsese wanted to depict the lives of the regular street guys who worked for the smaller bosses. Very different from other mob movies like The Godfather where the focus is on the main head boss and his family.
Ok, now you can see my mafia/gangster expertise, haha!
Wow, I can’t wait until I review another mobster movie, your knowledge is endless. I also realized watching this movie, that I was craving Italian food the entire time watching it. Lots of footage of delicious food in that movie.
Oh, lol about the Italian food
Definitely lots of spaghetti and lasagna, sometimes pizza. I’ve also seen Scorsese’s 1st film, Mean Streets – it’s ok, it sets the tone for his later works. I also like Casino, Gangs of NY, and The Departed – all great gangster films!
I’m a huge Scorsese fan, probably because of the NY connection, and enjoy a majority of his work (including the documentaries he does). But he has made some movies that I wasn’t overtly impressed with. However, Mean Streets I really enjoyed, I actually gave that movie a 10 in my review. With it being his first film, I was supremely impressed by what he did.
I feel like in a lot of cases, a director’s first film is usually his best. I just watched the sixth sense and I plan on mentioning this in my review, maybe when they’re green they have the most passion.
Yeah he’s definitely done some great things, I can’t believe it was only recently that he got his first oscar.
My theory on that is that The Departed’s Oscar was a “Sorry, We’ve Screwed You for so long” Oscar”. Don’t get me wrong, I think The Departed is a great flick, but Scorsese has had better movies. But that’s just my opinion. And speaking of a director’s first film, you should check out Ridley Scott’s The Duellists (I think that’s the spelling). It isn’t a flawless film, but it’s still a great movie.
I certainly will!
